Instagram Hashtags: How Many to Use and Which Ones to Choose

Choose hashtags that describe the post and your business, not the most generic ones you can find. Mix broad and niche tags, add a location tag and a brand tag, and keep the list short and relevant. For current limits and guidance on hashtags, follow Instagram's own advice.

Instagram Hashtags: How Many to Use and Which Ones to Choose

01

Start with relevance, not quantity

A hashtag is a label that tells people what a post is about. The best ones are accurate. If someone who searches a tag would be happy to see your post, the tag is a good fit.

This guide does not give a magic number. Instagram sets rules about hashtags and updates its guidance, so check its current help pages for the latest. Within those rules, a short list of well-chosen tags is easier to maintain than a long list of loosely related ones.

02

Mix broad and niche hashtags

Think of your tags in layers.

  • Broad tags name the general topic, like a type of food or workout.
  • Niche tags name something specific, like a style, a method or a dietary need.
  • Audience tags name the people you want to reach, like a hobby or a life stage.

03

Add location and brand hashtags

For a local business, a location tag can connect you with nearby customers. Use your city or neighborhood in the way people there actually write it.

A brand tag is a tag only you use, such as your business name or a short slogan. Use it on every post so your content can be collected in one place. It also helps customers tag you back when they share their own photos.

Be honest about what the tags do. They help people find content by topic. They do not guarantee reach.

04

Where to put hashtags

You can place hashtags at the end of the caption, after your main text, so the message reads cleanly. Some people add them in a first comment instead. Either is fine, so pick one and stay consistent.

In the caption, keep the text first and the tags last. Readers should meet your words before a block of symbols.

Do not copy the same long list onto every post. Change it to fit each post's topic.

05

How InstaLoad writes hashtags

When you type a topic in InstaLoad, the AI writes the caption and a set of hashtags together with the post design. It uses your business description, your tone of voice and the content language set for the Instagram account, English or Brazilian Portuguese.

All text is editable. Read the hashtags, remove any that do not fit, and add your location and brand tags by hand. InstaLoad does not show hashtag volume data, so you judge relevance yourself.

Then publish, or schedule the post for later. Nothing is published until you decide.

Questions

How many hashtags should I use?

There is no number we can promise works best. Instagram sets its own rules and changes its guidance, so follow what Instagram currently recommends. A short list that fits the post is a safe starting point.

Should I use the same hashtags on every post?

Keep your brand tag the same, but change the topic tags to match each post. Repeating an identical list is easy, though it may not describe what the post is about.

Does InstaLoad show which hashtags are popular?

No. InstaLoad does not provide hashtag volume data. The AI suggests relevant hashtags for your topic, and you decide which to keep.

Do hashtags work for a brand new account?

They help label your content by topic, but they are not a shortcut to followers. Combine them with clear captions and a regular posting rhythm.
